A campaign featuring 100 innovative South West companies to inspire small, entrepreneurial businesses across the region and help them boost the economy, is being launched through this website from next week.
The Business Challengers South West campaign will also bring together Northcliffe newspapers from across the region with the South West RDA (Regional Development Agency) and Business Link in a unique partnership to create a highly-effective and innovative campaign.
Northcliffe will support the Business Challengers campaign in all 27 of its titles in the South West – from North Gloucestershire to Land’s End – as well as its associated websites.
Jane Henderson, South West RDA chief executive, said: “Business Challengers can be a real inspiration to companies throughout the South West. The region is dynamic and our small, growing businesses are the lifeblood of our economy.
“We have a fantastic track record for entrepreneurial businesses which provides the bedrock for further growth.
“We are determined to encourage these businesses to succeed, which is why we are delighted to be working with Northcliffe and Business Link in this unique partnership.”
Trading conditions in 2010 are predicted to be as harsh as 2009. By highlighting and learning from innovative and inspirational businesses it is hoped the region’s crucial small and medium-sized firms can be encouraged to succeed and grow.
The South West’s 219,000 small and medium-sized firms employ more than half the region’s workforce – nearly 1.6 million people – between them and play a vital role in driving the economy forward.
Through the partnership, the South West RDA and Business Link are determined to inspire and encourage enterprise among the region’s small and growing firms, building on its proud tradition of innovation and creativity.
But this can only be achieved by working in true partnership.
Business Link, as the independent gateway to business support across the South West, is committed to helping small and medium-sized firms through the current challenging economic conditions.
Phil Smith, Business Link chief executive said: “Our business advisers worked tirelessly during 2009 helping businesses survive by focusing on the basics such as cashflow, marketing and looking after their staff and customers.
“It’s now time to build on that hard work and help hard-pressed businesses move forward. They can do that by putting innovation and creativity at the core of their operations – and we have 100 examples of successful businesses of all sizes from across the South West which have done just that.”
These 100 inspirational businesses are at the heart of the Business Challengers South West campaign. Each demonstrates the kind of creativity, innovation and inspirational leadership that allows them to take on larger players to succeed and grow.
“These Challenger businesses do something different, something that gives them an edge over their larger, more-established rivals,” added Ian Mean, Editor of the Citizen at Gloucester which is one of the Northcliffe newspaper titles supporting the campaign. “As an important part of the local business community ourselves, we are pleased to back a campaign that will get to the heart of what makes these businesses successful – and use them to inspire other small firms to do the same.”
Every day one of these Challenger companies will be featured on Northcliffe’s South West Business website – www.southwestbusiness.co.uk – as well as on the Business Link site.
